This picture is a live image of my patient.

The grand father of this patient gave permission for this.

This cute 11 yrs old boy was or is one of the patients I saw today.

His grandfather brought him worried cause they suddenly saw the boy’s eyes like this.

After enquiring about how long his eyes have been like this ,I ran some tests but still felt something was not right.

I went back to the grandfather to ask more questions;is your boy a rough child though the cute boy looks gentle, his grandfather said no. Did something hit your eyes? That was me asking my patient directly,he said no.Are you having any pain? He said, no!

Then I asked the last question that confirmed my diagnosis.

Has this child been coughing? The grandfather said yes. That he has been coughing for the two weeks he came for the holidays . I asked about water he has been drinking only to find out his grandfather has been giving him tap water while he drinks bottled water at home which from my investigation made this child to start coughing even though the man said he has been treating him for the cough too before the GP referred them to us.

Now, this is the main purpose for this post. This condition looks terrifying but very harmless unless there’s a traumatic occurrence that triggered this.

This condition is known as SUBCONJUNCTIVAL HAEMORRHAGE. This occurs when tiny blood vessels on the surface of that white part of your eyes leak blood due to breakage.

Causes include!

Severe or prolonged cough

Sneezing

Vomiting

Lifting of weight or anything that causes increased pressure around your head region.

Bear in mind, that you can wake up from sleep without the above causes occurring and see your eye like this or almost like this. This is to say that, bad sleep position can cause it.i.e putting pressure on the nerves or veins around your ear while sleeping

Is it something to panic?

No!

Here is what you can do at home!

You can do warm water compress to aid reabsorption of the blood and this condition usually takes at least two weeks and you’re fine without treatment

HOWEVER, if there’s severe pain or discomfort ,because this condition is usually painless, then send me a DM for consultation 😁

I meant,go and see your doctor!

Gracias!
