“We live out in the country, and sadly, we’ve had many animals dumped on us by people who don’t care. Some we’ve been able to keep, and others we’ve found good homes for.
This German Shepherd was one of them. He was older and purebred, and someone just left him behind about 4 years ago. We decided to keep him, named him Shep, and gave him food, love, and care. But for weeks, he wouldn’t let anyone come near him. He was scared and unsure.
Then one day, I picked up one of our barn cats—and something changed. Shep ran over to me, gently nudged the cat, and then let me pet him for the very first time. He absolutely loves all of our cats and seems to feel safer around them than around people.
Our vet believes he was probably abused before he came to us. But now, he’s living a happy life and has a new best friend—a little kitten we recently adopted. They love to snuggle together and are truly the best of buddies.”
