Are celebrities really cool?

Some are, some aren’t… a bit like ‘normal people’. James Gandolfini is a great example of a celebrity who was genuinely kind in real life. During the filming of The Sopranos , he was extremely protective and fatherly towards his on-screen daughter, Jamie-Lynn Sigler. In the series, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which devastated her.

Sigler didn’t tell any of her co-stars about her diagnosis, and no one asked… she had dizziness, muscle aches, and had to take a lot of bathroom breaks during scenes because the condition affected her bladder – no one bothered to ask, they were just annoyed that her condition was interrupting filming. Gandolfini was the only person who asked “are you okay?” and Sigler told him about her illness. She asked him not to tell anyone – and he didn’t. He just quietly helped her through it.

It wasn’t until Gandolfini’s death ten years later that Sigler learned something more about him… for more than a decade, without telling anyone, he had donated generously to foundations that aimed to combat the disease his co-star was suffering from. A truly good person does good quietly – kindness requires no praise.
