I used Lyft for the first time because I needed a ride to go pick up my car from the dealership. About halfway through the trip, the driver received a phone call through his car’s speaker. The person on the other end was talking about repossessing his car.
As soon as the driver realized the call was on speaker, he quickly switched it off. I heard him tell the person on the line that he needed two more weeks.
I’ve been in that situation before, so I understood immediately what was happening. When a car is already in repossession status, it’s very serious, and most of the time, they won’t wait two weeks.
I asked him a few gentle questions, trying to understand what he was going through. After hearing his situation, I decided to call the bank myself. Right there during the ride, I paid the amount he owed so his account could be brought up to date.
When he realized what I had done, he broke down crying right there in the car. Seeing his reaction brought me to tears too. He never asked me for anything. I helped him purely from my heart—not for attention, not for credit, just because I truly wanted to.
Before I got out of the car, I said this to him:
“Some of the best people—including me—have been exactly where you are right now. Don’t give up. Better days are coming.”
It’s a blessing to be able to bless someone else, and I’m grateful that I was in a position to help.
