Well, this happened when my daughter was 18. Actually, I told her that she was. She was in deep denial. After she decided to continue the pregnancy, I helped her get in touch with my midwife. At first she wasn’t sure she was going to keep the baby and we looked into open adoption. Around the seventh month she decided that she was going to keep the baby. We talked about how she would be the mom. I was not going to take over for her. She gave birth to her daughter squatting, with me holding her up, her sisters encouraging her, her dad pacing the hall outside her bedroom. She is a great mom. When her baby was 1 1/2 my daughter went to college and got her AA. She’s gone on to marry and have three boys. Her daughter graduated from college with honors and lives in Italy. Here’s a recent photo of my son-in-law (who adopted my granddaughter when she was six), my daughter and my my granddaughter.
Having a daughter get pregnant unexpectedly isn’t the end of the world. Love helps everything.
