A 16-year-old high school student from Guelph, Ontario, named Jamey Ruth Klassen, is being praised as a hero after she saved the life of Christopher G. Robertson, 40, when he nearly drowned in the cold waters of Georgian Bay in Collingwood, Ontario.

Christopher had been out kayaking when his kayak suddenly flipped and began to sink. Stranded in the freezing water, he clung to the overturned kayak and yelled for help. Jamey, who happened to be on the beach at the time, noticed the emergency and immediately reacted. Without hesitation, she jumped into the water and swam an incredible 600 feet toward him.

By the time she reached the spot, Christopher had already disappeared beneath the surface. Acting quickly, Jamey dove 12 feet down to the lake bottom, found him, and pulled him back up to the surface. Christopher was unconscious and not breathing. Jamey kept his face above water, resting his head on her shoulder, and began swimming back toward shore with one arm holding him while using her other arm and legs to propel them forward.

Exhausted and struggling in the cold water, Jamey called out for help. A man on a paddleboard heard her cries and rushed over. Together, they managed to lift Christopher onto the paddleboard. The man paddled him to shore, where others helped bring him safely out of the water.

After ensuring that Christopher was in good hands, Jamey swam to shore herself. Emergency responders revived Christopher, and he was taken to the hospital, where he made a full recovery.

Thanks to Jamey’s quick thinking, bravery, and determination, a life was saved that day.
