What should have been Mialah Leak’s 11th birthday party turned into a nightmare.
Instead of cake and candles, little Mialah took her last breath.
Prosecutors say her adoptive mother, Sherry Leak, sat on her as “punishment” and kept sitting until the girl couldn’t breathe anymore.
By the time paramedics got there, Mialah was already gone.
Her brothers and sisters are heartbroken.
Her biological family is broken.
And the whole community that once believed Sherry would keep her safe is left asking how a child could die inside the very home that was supposed to love and protect her.
Sherry is now charged with manslaughter.
The search for answers has only just started.
