IT WAS A SOMETHING DEFECATED

DURING WORLD WAR, LL

In April 1945, the army of General Patton discovered one of the concentration camps which was a shock to the whole world. The camp was Ohrdruf in Buchenwald and the first Americans who saw the camp up close and personal were the soldiers of Patton.

And what they had discovered was awful. They were heaped here and there dead bodies some were shot some starved. The few that survived were extremely thin and wasted and could barely move. It was even worse with crematoriums and instruments of torture that were seen as part of the atrociousness. Even hard fighting General Patton was broken.

This is what Patton, along with other leaders such as General Eisenhower wanted to be seen by the world. Eisenhower ordered soldiers around him to come to the camp, in order to see those horrors with their own eyes.

It was also shown to the local German citizens. People who lived in the neighboring town of Weimar would simply have to pass through the camp and witness those dead and dying. The intent was obvious: to show them the reality of Nazi atrocities, to ensure that no one could ever again deny or forget the atrocities of the Holocaust.
