On the way to my wedding, my mom became the first person to arrive at the scene of a serious accident.
With more than 35 years of experience as an ER nurse, she immediately stepped into action. Without hesitation, she began helping the injured woman and played a crucial role in saving her life. A witness later described the scene, saying that my mom was calmly directing police officers, EMS workers, and bystanders—all while physically holding the woman’s airway open. At the same time, someone else held a phone so she could speak directly with the air care team.
People in our community couldn’t stop talking about the incident. They mentioned a woman in a beautiful dress, wearing medical gloves, working tirelessly at the accident scene.
Later, my mom simply said she was being careful not to get blood on her dress—because she knew she still had to walk me down the aisle.
I am beyond proud to call her my mom.
