A mother of two, who thought her sickness and loss of appetite were caused by stress, was later given a shocking diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Annie, 58, first noticed symptoms in January, around the time she was selling her house. She said, “I thought it was just stress, but my daughter convinced me to see a doctor.
“I had an appointment in mid-February with my GP, who recommended an ultrasound. That’s when they found a lump in my pancreas. It was devastating. I felt like I was going to die the next day. I’m usually very healthy—I’ve never taken a sick day from work and hardly ever get colds.”
After more scans and endoscopies in March, she began chemotherapy the following month. “I had a port-a-cath put in my chest for the chemo, and the treatment through the port was really tough.
“For six months, every other week, I had to spend a full day in the hospital. With this type of cancer, surgery is really the only chance for a cure. Without it, the treatment just keeps it under control,” Annie explained.
Because her tumor is very complex, doctors in the UK say surgery is not possible.
