He did not. Mr. Richard Chamberlain was a gay man. Yes, I said was, sadly. Because this fine actor just passed away at the age of 90, and only two days before what would have been his 91st birthday.
Chamberlain was one of those men who did not make his sexual identity into the focal point of his existence. I greatly enjoyed him in The Count of Monte Cristo, or his fine work in Shogun. The man always nailed his parts, performed them well. No nonsense, no drama, no bullshit. He wasn’t a diva, didn’t have the airs and pretensions of a Hollywood star. A sergeant in the US army, he served in Korea from 1956 until 1958 before embarking on a career as an actor.
But yeah, the question you asked was whether or not Mr. Chamberlain had children — he did not, as he was never to my knowledge involved with a woman. He did not reveal the fact that he was gay until 2003, when he was 69. And never made a big deal of it. One of those old-school professionals of the Clint Eastwood school of no-nonsense.
