How did you feel about Meghan Markle’s very simple wedding dress and hairstyle?

I loved it. Everything about her look was too imperfectly perfect. That’s the look she was going for, wasn’t it?

I think she intended to look as normal and as natural as possible, yet beautiful at the same time, and she succeeded.

The dress was simple, elegant, and flattering. Her hair was not overdone but not underdone. Her makeup was actually what impressed me the most.

No fancy makeup techniques were used, no enhancement to facial features or skin tone, and no artificial eye lashes. She didn’t even use foundation or enough concealer to correct the flaws of her skin, and that as well I think was intended. The blemishes and spots on her skin were clearly visible.

Any woman, when put in a similar situation, would be overly conscious about how she would appear in front of the whole world, but not her, and that says a lot.

Despite being in her mid thirties and a few years older than the groom who happens to be a prince she didn’t feel any need to fake-look like a youthful, never aging celebrity, or a flawless fairy tale princess. I’m sure she had plenty of time and resources to do that if she wanted, but her lack of makeup was intentional. I’m not sure why she did that, but knowing that she’s an activist in women’s issues I suspect she did that on purpose, perhaps to make a statement, one that we now need more than ever.

To all the young girls and even the older women who are insecure and uncomfortable in their own flawed bodies and flawed skin, there’s nothing wrong with you. You are as normal as a celebrity like Meghan who’s marrying a prince. If she is comfortable with showing her flaws at her wedding in spite of her wealth and status then so should you.

Enough with all the plastic and fake beauty standards. They are damaging to young girls and to aging women as well. I am an example of someone who had suffered as a teenager from serious body hate because the skinny look was becoming the norm at the time. I feel even sadder that on top of everything else today’s younger generation is being constantly exposed to unrealistic facial beauty standards no one can meet but the poster girls and the Instagram models.

Meghan, in her wedding look, is simply repairing some of the damage today’s social media trends had caused for the overall beauty image and self acceptance.

She cared more about the message she was conveying than how she would appear in front of the world, knowing that she would be criticized for it, and for that I had grown greater respect for her.

This is a photo I just saw today on Instagram. Someone did some photo manipulation to make her look “more bridal” as they claim.
