I was driving to the post office

I was driving to the post office when I noticed a house with a small table set up on the sidewalk. A simple sign on it read, “FREE.” Curious, I turned the car around, parked, and walked toward the family sitting beside the table.

As I approached, a young man looked up and asked gently if I needed a meal. That’s when I realized the table was filled with neatly prepared food packages. I told him, “No, thank you,” but I couldn’t help asking what they were doing. To my surprise, I felt a wave of emotion welling up inside me.

A woman sitting behind the table smiled and explained that they often prepare meals to give out on Sundays—just a small way to help anyone who might need it.

I was deeply moved by their kindness. Even though I felt a bit awkward, I managed to thank them sincerely for what they were doing. I offered them some money, wanting to contribute, but the woman gently refused with the same warm smile.

I’m still not entirely sure what made me stop that day, but I’m grateful that I did. Their simple act of generosity touched me in a way I hadn’t expected. It reminded me that even in difficult times, there is still so much goodness in the world—quiet, genuine, and freely given.
