On July 5th, while Liz and Matthew Hammond were driving through Central Texas with their three children, they didn’t see that the bridge ahead was missing — washed away by powerful floodwaters.
Their van fell straight into the fast-moving river. In the darkness and panic, 17-year-old Malaya somehow found the strength to help her family get out… but she couldn’t save herself.
The water carried Malaya away. A few days later, her body was found — sitting gently under the trees, as if nature was holding her close.
Now the Hammonds have lost everything: their daughter is gone, their car and belongings were destroyed… and their hearts are broken beyond words.
But even in their deep sorrow, they came back to the river — not with anger, but with love — to remember the water that took their child and to honor Malaya’s spirit.
They have always lived simply, never asking for help. But now… they need all of us.
Please — give if you can. And if you can’t, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Their pain is more than anyone should have to bear.
