Richard’s Story

3

I don’t have wedding photos to share, but I have something far more meaningful.
This is my son, Richard.

Richard is 13 years old and has been fighting two extremely rare and aggressive cancers at the same time — Ewing Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His situation is so unusual that only two other cases like his have ever been recorded in medical history. Richard has already lived longer, fought harder, and shown more strength than anyone ever expected.

Doctors once told us that his body would never again be able to produce its own blood cells, meaning he would rely on transfusions for the rest of his life. But Richard has a way of proving people wrong.
This is week six without a single transfusion — a milestone no one believed was possible. Every week he goes without one feels like a quiet miracle, a reminder that hope can survive even in the darkest places.

In this photo, Richard is gently petting his favorite animal, a sweet companion named Cheese. Moments like these — simple, soft, full of love — are what carry us forward. They’re proof that even in the middle of a battle no child should have to face, Richard still finds joy, still shines, still lives with a courage far beyond his years.

Richard’s story isn’t just about illness.
It’s about strength, hope, and a boy who continues to defy impossible odds.
