She had only been with us for one week

She had only been with us for one week when this picture was taken three years ago. In less than two years, she became the third little one in our home. Imagine people our age caring for three babies under two years old — all still in diapers! Their father was still alive then. He was in jail, but he was alive. And I still carried hope in my heart that he could recover. Deep down, I believed I would one day see him healed, running toward me and toward his babies. I prayed he would stay in jail, because I truly believed it was his only chance to get better. Sadly, I was right. These precious babies lost their father on 4/22/23, and we lost our son. Drugs took him from us, and we were left broken.

Maybe that’s why I feel such deep love for Kaidyn’s mom. He came to us almost four years ago, just after turning one. At first, we were told he might be our son’s child, but later we learned he wasn’t. Still, this baby needed us — and the truth is, we needed him too. In March 2022, we were granted guardianship. We were not foster parents or biological grandparents — just two people who refused to give up on a child who deserved stability and love.

Every day, I think about God’s plan and how He works everything out for those He loves. He loves these babies even more than we ever could. He knew we would one day adopt Kohen and Pea, and He knew Kaidyn would eventually have his mom back — healthy, whole, and ready to be the mother he deserves. Our family has grown through both painful losses and powerful love.

Our past does not define who we are, but it certainly shapes who we are becoming — stronger, more faithful, and filled with purpose.
