This is John. He was my Uber

This is John. He was my Uber driver on the way to the airport yesterday.

During the ride, he asked why I was traveling, and I told him it was for work. Then he asked if I was around 28 years old. I replied that I was 27.

That’s when John shared something deeply personal. He told me that his daughter had passed away unexpectedly at the age of 29. He said he tried to save her, but by the time he found her, it was already too late. His voice trembled as he spoke.

He also shared that when his own father passed away, he was holding his son in his arms—experiencing both loss and life at the same time.

“I wish I could’ve done more,” he said quietly. “Why couldn’t I bring her back?” His words were heavy with pain and heartbreak.

After a moment, he apologized for opening up so much. Then he said something I’ll never forget:

“I’m so sorry for all of this. I haven’t met anyone so kind and understanding. You made me feel like I had someone to talk to.”

Before I got out of the car, he gently patted my arm and said,

“Please don’t let the world change you. Keep smiling. Keep being kind. You’ve shown me how much kindness a stranger can offer. You never know what someone is going through, especially behind the smile they’re hiding behind. Thank you, sweet girl.”

That moment stayed with me.

Be kind to others. Always. Show compassion. Listen when people speak. Ask how their day is going. Smile at strangers. Say hello in the store. Do small acts of kindness every day.

Start a conversation with your Uber driver—it might mean more to them than you realize and help them in ways you can’t even imagine. ❤️
