What is a weird house rule that you have to explain to your house guests?

At one friend’s parents’ house, they had a strange and weird rule that my friend had to explain to all of his house guests including me. I had heard of some homeowners not wanting shoes in the house, so I thought that was it, but was surprised to hear no shoes or socks…bare feet only.
Another friend and I came over to see him and had to take our shoes and socks off at the door. My accompanied friend wanted to keep his socks on, but was told no by the mom who stood at the door.

She had a vat of warm, soapy water for us to clean our feet in, then another vat of warm, rinse water.
It felt good to step into the water and clean my tired feet. She helped both of us dry our bare feet with a towel after rinsing them. We were offered some disposable slippers to wear; I declined, but my other friend took a pair and put them on his bare feet. His tan, pedicured toes could still be seen at the top of each slipper. The mom complimented both of our bare feet saying they looked nice. She said some of her son’s friends have nasty or smelly feet.

Her son was of course barefoot already, and we played on the sofa before eating dinner. He explained to us later that his parents didn’t want dirty shoes or socks in their house.
When he came over to my house on occasion, he would take off his shoes and socks out of habit, though my parents just required no shoes. My little sister loved to tickle his bare soles and toes as we watched TV.
