Arnold Schwarzenegger actually disliked the script of the movie so much that he almost walked off the set!
Arnold, at first, did not like or care about the first movie, calling it “some shit movie about robots” when he was filming The Terminator. He only took the role for money, but came around to enjoy it when it launched him into the stratosphere of popularity.
Schwarzenegger did not like the idea of making a sequel, because he thought the original movie was complete and did not need a sequel. He also was confused why he would play the hero this time around. (SPOILER WARNING!!!*)
Arnold did not like the fact that he was the T-800 who “did not kill anyone in the film.” He was also very opposed to the idea that the robot would be “the hero” as he believed that would cheapen the character.
Eventually he accepted the role thanks to persuasion from James Cameron, and getting a $15 million payout for the movie also helped warm Arnold to the role.
(*I know that it’s old news about the spoilers, but thanks to the awful trailer for the movie, the entire movie twist was spoiled!)
